Meta Quest was launched in 2019 and is one of the modern VR gaming platforms. These are standalone VR headsets that do not require connection to a computer or console.

The platform gradually replaced the earlier Oculus Rift device and focuses on affordability, ease of use, and a wireless experience.

Hardware revisions and versions

Oculus Quest (2016) - the first standalone VR headset with integrated hardware and motion tracking without external sensors.

Meta Quest 2 (2020) - a significantly more powerful and lighter model with a higher display resolution and wider availability. It became the most widespread VR headset of its generation.

Meta Quest Pro (2022) - a more advanced variant focused on work use (mixed reality, eye and face tracking).

Meta Quest 3 (2023) - a modern model with higher performance, better resolution, color passthrough, and advanced mixed reality features.

Technical highlights and uniqueness

Standalone VR - the device works without the need for a PC or console. All power is integrated directly into the headset.

Meta Touch controllers - motion controllers that allow precise tracking of hands in space.

Inside-out tracking - tracking movement using cameras directly on the headset without external sensors.

Meta Quest Store - digital distribution of games and applications directly to the device.

PC VR connection (Link / Air Link) - the ability to connect the headset to a PC and play more demanding VR games.

Well-known titles include Beat Saber, Half-Life: Alyx (via PC), Superhot VR, and Resident Evil 4 VR, which show the possibilities of virtual reality.
