Grand Theft Auto IV is a third-person action game that combines an open world, story missions, and freedom of movement around the city. It was released by Rockstar North in 2008 as the next installment in the famous series. The story takes place in Liberty City, a fictional metropolis inspired by New York, and emphasizes realism, a big-city atmosphere, and a darker tone compared to previous games.

Story

The main character is Niko Bellic, a war veteran from Eastern Europe who arrives in Liberty City hoping for a new start. However, he soon becomes entangled in a world of crime, debt, and betrayal as he tries to help his cousin Roman and come to terms with his own past. The game offers a more mature story with moral dilemmas and excellently written dialogue.

Gameplay

GTA IV is based on a combination of driving, shooting, and free exploration of the city. You can complete story missions, side quests, or simply wander the streets of Liberty City. Compared to older games, the game focuses more on realism - character movement, vehicle physics and the police system look more believable. There is also online multiplayer for various game modes.

Technical state

The game uses the RAGE engine, thanks to which it offered impressive graphics, a vibrant urban environment and advanced physics thanks to Euphoria technology. Although the PC version suffered from optimization problems at the time of release, later updates have significantly improved performance. Even today, Liberty City looks very authentic thanks to its detailed design and atmospheric lighting.
