BioShock overview

About the game

BioShock is a first-person action FPS survival horror that takes you to the mysterious underwater city of Rapture. After a plane crash in the middle of the Atlantic, the main character finds himself at a seemingly abandoned lighthouse, which becomes a gateway to a world where utopian ideals have turned into a nightmare.

Story

The main character Jack, after an accident, ends up in Rapture — a once prosperous city that was supposed to be a haven for free minds, but has turned into a ruined hell ruled by madness. Jack is gradually manipulated by the influential inhabitants of the city, without initially realizing it. Only later does he reveal the truth about himself and the true nature of Rapture.

Gameplay

The game combines elements of a shooter and RPG, complemented by exploration of the environment and gathering resources. In addition to classic weapons, the player can use genetic modifications called Plasmids, which give him superhuman abilities. The story is told primarily through audio logs, radio transmissions, and atmospheric environments that create a unique sense of tension and isolation.

Technical state

BioShock runs on a modified version of the Unreal Engine 2.5, yet offers impressive visual presentation and a detailed art-deco aesthetic of the underwater city. Thanks to thoughtful design and optimization, the game retains the technical quality and strong atmosphere that make it a classic of the genre even after years.
