About the Game

Days Gone is an open-world action-adventure game developed by Bend Studio. Set in a post-apocalyptic Pacific Northwest two years after a global pandemic turned much of humanity into violent, zombie-like creatures called Freakers, the game follows Deacon St. John, a drifter and bounty hunter searching for his wife. With a focus on exploration, survival, and combat, the game blends dynamic open-world environments, narrative-driven missions, and a third-person perspective to immerse players in a world of danger and discovery.

Story

Deacon St. John, a former outlaw haunted by his past, navigates a fractured world overrun by Freakers while seeking answers about his wife’s survival. His journey leads him through hostile factions, treacherous landscapes, and personal confrontations as he grapples with loss, resilience, and the hope of rebuilding a life. The story weaves themes of survival, moral choices, and emotional depth.

Gameplay

Players control Deacon as he explores a vast, hostile open world, using firearms, melee weapons, and stealth to survive Freaker attacks. A central mechanic is upgrading and relying on Deacon’s motorcycle for travel, combat, and escaping hordes of Freakers that congregate at night. The game features dynamic events, enemy camps, and environmental challenges, with a focus on crafting supplies, scavenging resources, and forming alliances. Missions drive the narrative, while the open world encourages exploration, combat, and strategic survival in a constantly evolving landscape.

Technical state

Built using Unreal Engine 4, Days Gone delivers detailed environments, realistic lighting, and immersive audio design to enhance its post-apocalyptic atmosphere. Initially released for PlayStation 4 in 2019 and later for PC in 2021. A remastered version was later released, featuring improved performance and additional game modes.
