About the game

Quake is a classic action FPS from id Software, released in 1996 and laid the foundation for modern 3D shooters. The game uses a fully 3D environment, fast pace and a dark atmosphere inspired by Gothic and Lovecraftian motifs. Thanks to its emphasis on dynamic movement and precise shooting, Quake became a milestone in the genre.

Story

The player takes on the role of a Ranger soldier who is sent to stop a threat called Quake - an entity that has opened portals to different dimensions and flooded them with monsters. The story is minimalist and serves mainly as a backdrop for passing through individual episodes that take place in tech-labyrinths, castles and alien worlds.

Gameplay

Quake relies on fast action, smooth movement and various types of weapons from shotguns to rocket launchers. The player moves in complex maps full of enemies, secret rooms and switches. Multiplayer became a significant part of the game, thanks to the fast-paced deathmatch battles that influenced the entire development of online FPS.

Technical state

The game runs on id Tech 2, one of the first fully 3D engines, which allowed for realistic lighting effects, complex geometry and smooth movement. Despite its age, Quake offers significantly improved textures, models and high-resolution support thanks to modern ports such as Quake Enhanced. Trent Reznor's atmospheric soundtrack reinforces the dark and industrial character of the game.
